About the Framework

Bite-Size Montessori Literacy Foundations is SEELS’ Philippine-facing literacy framework, developed from almost two decades of Montessori-oriented teacher training and literacy implementation experience in Japan and adapted for the Philippine setting. It is multilingual-ready, recognizing the child’s mother tongue while building structured literacy foundations in Filipino and English. Within this framework, the SCJ IC / Literacy Foundations Intensive Course serves as the entry point for introducing Montessori philosophy, methods, and foundational literacy principles. From this base, learners and educators may move into two complementary pathways: Tunog at Pantig as the SEELS-developed Filipino strand, and Jolly Phonics as the English phonics strand distributed by SEELS through its Jolly Learners partnership. Together, these form a practical literacy model for young learners, teachers, parents, tutors, tutorial centers, and school builders.

Curricular Alignment

The primary curricular anchor is the 2016 DepEd Filipino Curriculum Guide. For early-grade foundational literacy, selected elements may also be described as compatible with the goals of the MATATAG Language and Reading and Literacy learning areas, particularly where they support oral language, phonological awareness, early decoding, vocabulary, writing, and comprehension development.
