What is MILDL-LSE?

A learning-support role built around education, collaboration and professional boundaries

MILDL-LSE stands for Montessori-Inspired Learning for Diverse Learners — Learning Support Educator. It is a SEELS professional-development pathway for educators and learning-support practitioners who want to help children with different abilities, readiness levels, learning profiles, interests, languages and support needs.

The role combines Montessori-inspired educational support with clear preparation for working alongside families, classroom teachers, doctors, occupational therapists, psychologists, speech-language professionals and other specialists.

MILDL-LSE does not seek to create another therapist. It seeks to prepare a better-informed educator — one who knows how to observe, support learning, communicate useful information, understand professional recommendations, and recognize when to refer.

Core Principle

Observe. Support. Communicate. Refer responsibly.

The MILDL-LSE works within an educational scope: supporting learning, participation, independence, literacy, numeracy, practical life, communication and family partnership while respecting the distinct roles of licensed professionals.

Optional Specialist Enrichment

Special Sessions with Invited Professionals

Part II includes the core 12-hour MILDL-LSE Professional Practice and Interprofessional Communication curriculum.

From time to time, SEELS may organize additional sessions with invited professionals such as physicians, developmental specialists, occupational therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, speech-language professionals, and other relevant practitioners.

These sessions are designed to deepen participants' understanding of professional perspectives, referral, communication, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Where an invited specialist requires a professional or lecture fee, a separate participation fee may apply. Any additional fee, schedule, and resource speaker will be announced in advance.

Participation in these specialist enrichment sessions is optional. The regular MILDL-LSE tuition covers the required core training and is not automatically increased because of optional specialist sessions.

Interprofessional collaboration

Learning to speak the language of the support team

MILDL-LSE participants are not trained to become specialists in these professions. They are prepared to understand enough of each professional language to communicate safely and usefully.

Occupational TherapistsParticipation, function, motor and sensory-related terminology, and educational follow-through.
Speech-Language ProfessionalsReceptive and expressive language, communication, speech and classroom support.

A Shared Professional Purpose

The pathways differ, but the professional purpose remains the same:

To prepare educators who can support diverse learners educationally, communicate responsibly with families and specialists, and recognize when additional professional support is needed.

MILDL-LSE is an educational professional-development pathway. It does not replace medical, psychological, occupational therapy, speech-language, or other regulated professional services.

Credential and professional-boundary note

MILDL-LSE is a private SEELS professional-development pathway. Completion confirms successful participation in the stated educational training, assessment and practicum requirements adopted by SEELS. It does not by itself confer a government teaching license, university degree, medical qualification, psychology credential, occupational therapy qualification, speech-language therapy qualification, or authorization to provide regulated clinical services.

Participants are expected to comply with the laws, licensing rules and professional regulations applicable in the country where they work or establish an educational service.

A MILDL-LSE is not another therapist. It is a better-informed educator who knows how to observe, support learning, communicate, collaborate and refer responsibly.
