TESOL Internship Program

The TESOL Internship Program provides an essential bridge between theory and practice. Through online instruction with Vietnamese and Japanese learners, trainees gain real-world experience, build their portfolios, and prepare to launch their careers as global educators or Speak and Code franchise partners.

Program Overview

The TESOL Internship Program is a supervised practicum designed to provide trainees with real-world teaching experience in an online classroom setting. As part of the certification requirement under the SEELS TESOL program accredited by CPD Services UK, this internship ensures that trainees demonstrate the ability to apply their training in live sessions with actual English language learners.

Internship Objectives

  • Apply TESOL teaching methods in authentic classroom settings
  • Develop confidence in managing diverse learners
  • Experience teaching students from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds (Japanese and Vietnamese)
  • Receive formative feedback to improve teaching practice

Internship Scope

  • The internship consists of 40 total hours of practical and reflective experience
  • Trainees will deliver at least 20 online teaching sessions (approximately 1 hour per session) via Zoom or other approved platforms
  • Students will consist of beginner to intermediate-level English learners from Japan and Vietnam
  • Sessions will focus on speaking, listening, phonics, or structured lesson content aligned with the Speak and Code curriculum

Supervision and Feedback

  • Each session will be observed live or reviewed via video by a TESOL mentor
  • Constructive feedback will be provided using a standardized evaluation rubric
  • Peer review opportunities will be encouraged for collaborative learning

Internship Requirements

  • Submit a 5-Step Lesson Plan in advance for mentor review
  • Obtain consent forms from students or guardians (when applicable)
  • Submit a video recording or reflection log of each session
  • Complete a final internship self-evaluation form

Eligibility and Completion

  • Only trainees who have completed Modules 1–10 are eligible
  • Completion of all internship deliverables is mandatory for certification
  • Internships may lead to recommendation for paid opportunities or franchise participation under the Speak and Code program

Code of Conduct

Trainees must:

  • Maintain professional and respectful conduct during all sessions
  • Protect student privacy and adhere to data protection policies
  • Refrain from recording sessions without explicit consent

Institutional Responsibility

SEELS TESOL mentors will:

  • Facilitate the matching of trainees with student groups
  • Provide technical orientation on online platforms
  • Ensure that trainees are supported before, during, and after teaching practice

Evaluation and Certification

  • A combined score from teaching performance, lesson plan quality, and reflection will determine pass/fail status
  • Trainees who fulfill all requirements will be endorsed for a TESOL Internship Certificate, provided as a supplement to the SEELS 120-Hour TESOL program accredited by CPD Services UK.
